Last week I was in Orlando for a few days as our company, Cirrus ABS participated in the international Builders Show.

Sunday I jotted down a few thoughts from the experience:

  1. Read the reviews of hotels before making reservations.  Discovering you have no hot water at 3am when you have to leave in an hour doesn’t cut it.
  2. Bring old comfortable dress shoes.  The new shoes I bought and tested for a couple days for comfort didn’t measure up to spending 8 hours a day standing on concrete.
  3. I saw a unicorn. Maybe.  All 7 of us saw it even though some had their doubts.
  4. Never, ever believe what the concierge tells you at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel.  That’s how we saw the unicorn and ate crummy food for 70 bucks per person.
  5. Vanilla Ice is still alive and doing a cable tv show.  I spoke with him last week.
  6. My co-worker Derick has an amazing amount of energy when he only gets 45 minutes sleep in 42 hours.  But I wouldn’t recommend anyone else try it.
  7. Singing along with your coworkers at a piano bar can be fun.  Even when they’re banging out old Johnny Cash tunes.
  8. If you plan carefully, you can eat some form of shrimp every day.
  9. You can turn skeptics into customers if you ask the right questions.
  10. My cat apparently did miss me.
  11. There is a difference between being ignorant and being stupid.
  12. A white mocha and/or a diet dew can hit the spot.
  13. The women in my life seemed to be more concerned about our traveling in nasty weather than the men.
  14. I’d rather stay warm inside than prove my manliness by standing outside for 45 minutes in a short sleeve shirt when the wind chill is in the teens. (I did the former).
  15. You can turn nearly any life experience into a blog post.  I just did.
