I was reviewing some of the articles I have posted here recently and I saw a theme that I want to change.

That is being a critic instead of an advocate.

Oh sure, I do both but a couple of stories about changes in radio station ownership and my dealings with the local paper were heavy on the negative and light on the positive.

Sometimes some folks need a kick in the pants or are too involved in their world to see the big picture. That’s too bad.

But while those type of articles seem to get the most traction, I’m really not Mr. Negative.

Just the opposite, I’ve been told.

So while I will continue to do the occasional “critic” article, my goal is to be an advocate for the positive.

Following up on the two stories I mentioned…

The article about radio station changes instigated a cup of coffee meeting with the guy in charge of all those changes.  I wished him success because if he can get more people excited about listening to local Fort Wayne radio stations, we all can benefit. “All” includes the radio broadcasting community, the local media community, the local advertising community and the local community at large.  I also have been tuning in to one of their new stations and like some of the changes, as a listener.

The article about the newspaper not caring about losing subscribers caught the attention of the newspaper newsroom that does care.  After all their jobs depend on selling papers.  I do like reading the local reporters stories, I just do most of it online.  I did however put 4 quarters in a paper box this week to get the print version.

My goal is to be an advocate of good business practices and help those that need assistance.

Anyone can be a critic.  Can you also be an advocate?
