Do You Lie About Time?

Over the weekend, my wife and I were waiting for her brother to be released from the hospital after having surgery.

Apparently, they do the opposite of what often happens in the restaurant business.

When we dine out and a restaurant has a wait list, it is common practice for them to exaggerate the length of time you’ll need to wait.

They may tell you 25 minutes, when the wait is only 15 minutes and then when they call your name earlier than you expected, you feel good.

Hospitals do the opposite, in my experience.

The nurse told my brother in law, that after his doctor released him, she’d have him out the door in 45 minutes.

She lied and she knew she was lying.  It was not 45 minutes.  It was 150 minutes.

That’s 2 and 1/2 hours. Over 3 times as long as she said.

Hospitals could take a lesson from the restaurant business.
