Monday afternoon, it happened again.

Another unexplained tragedy rocked the world as news of explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon spread on Social Media, TV News and Talk Radio.

The President spoke a few hours later, pledging that justice will be served.

But too many questions remain.

Who did this?

Why did they do it?

Is this a plot, are we all going to die, is there any hope?

That last sentence represents the dooms day talk that people who are without faith sometimes fall into.

Actually some people with faith sometimes wonder the same thing.

I called this Explaining Tragedies because there is a simple explanation.

We live in an imperfect world, filled with sin, evil and bad things are going to happen on this planet we call Earth.

If we lived in a perfect world, we would all live into our 80’s and die peacefully in our sleep.

But we have accidents, health issues, early deaths, plenty of conflicts, and life isn’t fair.

None of us are perfect and while some seem to be more imperfect than others, any imperfection ruins perfect.

I’m a Christian.  In the 1st book of the Bible is the story of Adam and Eve being kicked out of the original perfect world and we as the human race now live out our days on earth in the same state of imperfection.

Move up to the New Testament and we hear about the story of a return to Perfection, living in a place where there are no more tragedies and how it is all possible through the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, the Christ.  Believe, surrender and you can plan on a life in paradise one day.

Meanwhile we have an unknown number of days left here before we end up in heaven.  It’s up to us to decide how we are going to spend those days.  The Bible tells us that life here will not be easy or fair.  Read about the early followers of Jesus and you’ll see how unjustly they were treated.

Bombs in Boston, Shootings at Sandy Hook, Starving  Children, Homelessness, Financial Ruin, you name it, you can find it.

Even more you can expect tragedies to continue.  The only explanation is clear, this is the world we live in now.  God wants us to trust him, not to keep us protected from tragedies, but to trust him for our eternal life.

One more thing.

We do have a balance in this life on earth.  Life is pretty good for most of us. Look around at nature around us and you’ll see miracles in the beauty around us.  This helps us keep perspective, and renews our faith not just in each other, but in God.
