Our lives are busy.

A friend of mine works between 3 and 4 part time jobs and still has her sanity.

I prefer one main job and then getting involved with side projects that are usually volunteering my time, knowledge and expertise.

This year I decided to get involved with TEDxFortWayne.  I actually considered being involved in the first TEDxFortWayne in 2011 until the weekend of the event conflicted with family events.

There is a tremendous amount of planning and organization that is involved and I was privileged to be a part of one of the teams, the one that selected the speakers for this event.

In a second, I’m going to give you some important info and links to TEDxFortWayne, but first a bigger question, How Are You Involved in your community beyond your work life?

A common theme that we hear from people who are not involved is, “I’m bored.” Or “There’s nothing to do.”

Listen my friend…

There is plenty to do and you have no reason to be bored.  Last week I wrote about Responsibility.  You are responsible for how you spend your 24 hours every day.

I know people of all ages who are bored and people of all ages who are busy because they are involved.

Don’t know how to get involved?  Don’t know what to get involved with?  Consider joining us for TEDxFortWayne Saturday May 19th.  Seating is limited so you better check it out now while there are still tickets available.

The theme for TEDxFortWayne this year is ReThink Fort Wayne.  This theme was selected so we could actually take the ideas that are presented and generated at TEDxFortWayne and continue the process after TEDxFortWayne is over since TEDxFortWayne is a one day event.

From the TEDxFortWayne website:

Think big, Fort Wayne! Actually, RETHINK Fort Wayne. We have a seat waiting for you at the next TEDx event on May 19, 2012 from 9am- 5pm.

Are you brimming with new or re-worked ideas? We’re choosing speakers and guests for an inspirational, 2012 TEDx Fort Wayne conference. Save the date for “RETHINK Fort Wayne” and spread the word. Keep checking the 2012 TEDx Fort Wayne website for unfolding details.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxFortWayne, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxFortWayne event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

This independent TEDx event is operated under license from TED.
