Shoes and Santas

A couple days ago, as I was driving between a couple of clients I looked up and saw this:

It’s just a pair of shoes, hanging on some wires.

The street is Harrison, just north of downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana.  I’ve seen scenes like this before but never understood why.  The internet wasn’t very helpful in helping me find an answer when I Googled, “shoes hanging from wires”.

Do you know?  Have you ever tossed shoes up in the air and had them land on wires?  Let me know.

And while I’m on the subject of signs and symbols, I’m not really a fan of inflatable lawn decorations.  I saw some of them Monday too:
