Memes and Birthday Wishes on Facebook

A peek into the personal, fun side of ScLoHo.

If you are connected to me on Facebook and have had a birthday recently, I may have “memed you” on Facebook.

I’ll show you some examples in a second, but here’s the reason.

Facebook can be a wonderful tool to stay in touch with others and see what they are up to and share glimpses into your life too.

I am a pretty open book and will connect with both business and personal connections on my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Scott.Howard.aka.ScLoHo  along with Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.  But here’s something really cool about Facebook that you are aware of if you use it… Facebook tells you when your friends birthdays are so you can wish them a Happy one.

Because Facebook favors visual messages over text only messages in their algorithms, if you include a picture when you post, it will get more views.

So here’s what I started doing when I had the time.  When a friends birthday was coming up, I would search thru their Facebook photos and find one that was fun and playful.  Download it, (sometimes crop it) and then run it through an online meme generator and then post on on their Facebook page.

You can do this too in 5 minutes or less and create some extra smiles with your connections.  Take a look:

It’s All Fun and Games at Google Today

April 1st is the traditional day to prank someone.  April Fools day is also a day that the folks at Google like to test to see if you realize what day it is. google-plus-icons

As I was writing this a few days ago, I don’t know what their 2015 Google prank is for today, but there are a few “easter eggs” that live on and on and on.

For example,

  • Google “Google in 1998” and watch what happens.
  • Google “do a barrel roll”
  • Google “tilt”
  • Go to You Tube (owned by Google and enter “Beam Me Up Scotty” in the search bar

And then the Google Hoaxes, click on the links below:

There’s more but I have work to do today.  And if you bring your dog to work with you, you really could use this:

15 Random Ramblings from a Road Trip

15 Random Ramblings from a Road Trip

Last week I was in Orlando for a few days as our company, Cirrus ABS participated in the international Builders Show.

Sunday I jotted down a few thoughts from the experience:

  1. Read the reviews of hotels before making reservations.  Discovering you have no hot water at 3am when you have to leave in an hour doesn’t cut it.
  2. Bring old comfortable dress shoes.  The new shoes I bought and tested for a couple days for comfort didn’t measure up to spending 8 hours a day standing on concrete.
  3. I saw a unicorn. Maybe.  All 7 of us saw it even though some had their doubts.
  4. Never, ever believe what the concierge tells you at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel.  That’s how we saw the unicorn and ate crummy food for 70 bucks per person.
  5. Vanilla Ice is still alive and doing a cable tv show.  I spoke with him last week.
  6. My co-worker Derick has an amazing amount of energy when he only gets 45 minutes sleep in 42 hours.  But I wouldn’t recommend anyone else try it.
  7. Singing along with your coworkers at a piano bar can be fun.  Even when they’re banging out old Johnny Cash tunes.
  8. If you plan carefully, you can eat some form of shrimp every day.
  9. You can turn skeptics into customers if you ask the right questions.
  10. My cat apparently did miss me.
  11. There is a difference between being ignorant and being stupid.
  12. A white mocha and/or a diet dew can hit the spot.
  13. The women in my life seemed to be more concerned about our traveling in nasty weather than the men.
  14. I’d rather stay warm inside than prove my manliness by standing outside for 45 minutes in a short sleeve shirt when the wind chill is in the teens. (I did the former).
  15. You can turn nearly any life experience into a blog post.  I just did.
