We have too many TV’s in our house.

Except for this weekend when we had family spend the night in our two extra bedrooms.

The Televisions that get the most use is in our bedroom, living room, and family room.  3 other TV’s occupy our abode.  There are 2 of us who reside here full time.

4 of the TV’s are old style including one my wife picked up for 5 bucks at a thrift store.

The most expensive are the two flat screens purchased a few years ago, for less than $400 each.

Despite the popularity of small screen technology such as iPads and other tablets and mobile computing devices, we still watch a lot of television.  We also listen to radio stations and read the paper, although a lot of the paper reading is the online versions.

I’ve noticed that for some reason the TV network programming gods have created more “TV Seasons” and apparently believe that there are certain times of the year we won’t watch our favorite shows.

December for example was filled with reruns and holiday specials. Most of them I ignored.

History lesson: before the popularity of cable, we had 3 networks, ABC, NBC and CBS for decades, then a 4th with the addition of Fox.  Television was not 24/7 either.  Stations would sign off and be dark for a few hours in the middle of the night.

There was one “TV Season” per year for a long time too.  It followed the school year with new shows debuting in the fall, airing for 26 weeks followed by 26 weeks of repeats.  Some shows would get cancelled due to low ratings and so we would have mid-season replacements.

Today we have at least three “TV Seasons”.  There was the fall debuts, the summer season short runs and now the networks are promoting the start of the Winter or January season.

The good news for me is shows that I like to watch like The Good Wife, The Mentalist, NCIS, NCIS Los Angeles, The Middle, Modern Family, and Greys Anatomy all have new episodes this week.

And my wife’s Monday night show The Bachelor returns this week too.

Which is another reason for us to have more than one TV.
