You know that feeling when you’re flying coach, and you’re in the middle seat? You’re not next to the window, so forget the relaxing views. You’re not on the aisle, so good luck escaping without gymnastics. You’re just… stuck.
A lot of small businesses are flying like that.
They’re not the cheapest in town, and they’re not the premium option either. They’re stuck in the middle – trying to compete on both price and quality – and losing ground to the businesses that picked a lane.
And that “middle seat” is the most uncomfortable spot in the market.
Here’s why it matters: Customers want clarity. They want to know what you’re best at. If you’re not claiming a clear position in the minds of your potential customers, you’re not even in the running. You’re just background noise.
So… which seat are you in?
Are you the budget option? Then own it. Be the best value in town.
Are you the premium service? Then show it. Deliver an experience that makes people brag about doing business with you.
But if you’re trying to be all things to all people… you might end up being memorable to no one.
