I mentioned this morning on Twitter that I’ve had bacon, salad and diet Mt. Dew everyday this week and a friend mentioned that today was national bacon day.
Bacon has been experiencing a growth in popularity the last several years.
I have in my kitchen one last bag of bacon flavored microwave popcorn that I will pop this weekend, just to get rid of it.
But bacon has been sneaking into my diet more and more.
My typical breakfast on my way to work is a bacon and egg wrap (without cheese) from Arbys & a diet dew.
Thursday evening I had an extra dose when I ordered an egg salad/BLT when I was out with friends. I’ve nicknamed that sandwich, Brunch, for obvious reasons.
Friday I was planning on eating a turkey & bacon wrap for lunch, then we had a company leftover lunch, so that wrap became my lunch today. However I noticed that the salad I split with my wife Friday night had crumbled bacon, so I still got a double dose.
And actually today I had a double dose because I started my day at the Firefly coffee house and had a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich.
You might think that all of this bacon in my diet means I’ve gained, oh, a hundred pounds…
Nope.
I am still slimming down, based on a conscious decision I made 6 months ago. I eat less calories than I used to. I eat more fresh fruits and vegetables than I used to. I eat slower than I used to. And I drink more water than I used to.
And I eat foods that taste good in smaller portions than I did a year ago. Including Bacon.
