But today, October 1st, it’s time to ask The Most Important Advertising Question.

Is the advertising you are doing right now making a positive difference for the future?

I don’t mean some theoretical save the planet kind of difference.

I mean a real dollars & cents difference.

Along with a marketing guy, I am also a consumer, like you.

Sunday I decided to fork over a couple bucks and buy the local Sunday newspaper to see what they had inside.

I read a few stories, and noticed the advertisers.

But because I’m more than a consumer and I am a marketing guy, I paid attention to ads that I would not have if I was simply a consumer.

And I was perplexed as to why certain businesses were advertising in the paper or why they were advertising the way they were in the paper.

 

I saw ads targeted to teenagers.  That was a waste of money.   I saw two ads for competing heating and cooling companies right next to each other.  Another waste of money.

 

I’m not picking on the paper or the advertisers, but I want to challenge you to stop and think about that question, Is the advertising you are doing right now making a positive difference for the future?
