I usually stay away from political issues on this site, but this is not really about politics.
I recently found an interactive chart that attempts to show us what someone needs to earn per hour to afford a place to live that is not under a bridge.
Where I live, Fort Wayne, Indiana which is in Allen County, Indiana, you need to earn $10 an hour to afford a 1 bedroom place to live.
Check out the chart here and find out what it would cost in your town.
The range goes from just under 8 bucks to nearly 30 bucks an hour depending on where you want to live.
The argument that we need a national minimum wage is flawed because it does not allow for the fluctuations in the cost of living that we have depending on where you live. Let’s do in on a state by state basis.
But the even bigger question is what is the purpose of a minimum wage? I don’t want to only earn the minimum, do you?
That’s like getting a D- on a test. Yes, you passed, but there’s no way you should accept that as the best you can do.
Think about it and your comments are welcome.
